French Toast and Variations

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • dash salt
  • 1 T sugar (optional)
  • 1 t vanilla or cinnamon (optional)
  • butter, as needed
  • 8 slices bread
  1. Heat griddle or skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Beat eggs and stir in milk, salt, and the optional sugar, vanilla, or cinnamon.
  3. Add a teaspoon of butter to the griddle. When melted, dip slice of bread in batter and put on griddle.
  4. Cook till browned on each side, turning as needed, for no more than 10 minutes total.

*Crispy version: Stir 1/2 c flour into the batter. Or instead dip in batter, and then dredge in sweetened bread crumbs or crushed corn flakes.

*Carmelized version: Sprinkle or dredge the dipped bread with sugar.

*Ideas for toppings:

  • soft whipped cream
  • sauteed apples, pears, bananas
  • maple buttercream
  • orange glaze
  • maple butter sauce
  • fruit puree
